What should we call orientation leaders




















Often being one of the first connections a new student makes at Geneseo, Orientation Leaders positively impact the new student experience and represent the Geneseo community. Orientation Leaders are role models who also serve as peer mentors and sources of support and information. An Orientation Leader displays an energetic and positive attitude while facilitating large and small group discussions about campus life, academics, College resources and the community.

Orientation leaders must attend various spring trainings in April, June and July. Specific dates to be determined. Starting August 2, OLs are expected to meet with their Orientation Group virtually once a week until move-in on August Engagement Day. Orientation Party. Clubs and Societies Expo. Selected recruits will be informed one or two weeks after the interview period ended. If passed, each recruit will go through an apprenticeship program spans for a total of 8 months and will be assigned a full-fledged orientation leader to serve as their mentor throughout the apprenticeship program.

At the evaluation stage, each mentor will gather along with the executive committee and board of directors to review the performance of each apprentice. The Orientation Leader is often one of the first contacts that a new student will have with his new school other than Admissions personnel.

The position of OL is not an easy one. Qualities such as maturity, dedication, caring and compassion are important. They are knowledgeable about campus facilities, policies and procedures. They often undergo extensive training regarding group leadership and facilitating group discussion, and also regarding the transitional experience and issues facing incoming students.

These trained students serve as guides and important sources of information about campus life and college expectations. Serving as an ambassador for the college, and helping new students make the transition to college life successfully are important goals for most Orientation Leaders. As your new student gets to know her Orientation Leader, or if your returning student decides to become an Orientation Leader, you will be assured that the college-student connection is not only strengthened, but personal.
